Hi all
My dad is 77, has cancer and a blue badge. Apart from the latter, he doesn't know of any kind of benefits he's getting. He wants to get a new car on the Motability scheme but an initial look tells me there are certain benefits you need to be getting before you can apply.
Is there someone my dad can speak to/call who will let him know what he's entitled to?
Many thanks

The Motability scheme is part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Claimants who get a certain level of the mobility element can exchange the award for a car.
New claims for PIP cannot be made by people over state pension age.
He could look at Attendance Allowance which is suitable for his age, but does not include a mobility element or a car scheme.
Local Citizens Advice Bureau will be able to advise on benefit entitlement, or there are online calculators that you could fill in if he isn't internet savvy.

Given his cancer, has he a McMillan or Sue Ryder nurse assigned ? - in my experience they are very knowledgeable and helpful in advising on what benefits you might be able to claim and assisting in the claims process.

With him being 77 he wouldn't have been eligible to claim PIP at all anyway. Unless he claims DLA high rate mobility then he won't have access to the motability scheme.
