I managed to get an ok fix with the company I was with a few days ago. It's one of the big 6 companies and was a good deal for me.
Out of curiosity I went online to compare with the other 5..
4 of them arent taking on new customers or giving quotes either
And the other 1 was twice the price of my fix
Just wanted to make those who didn't know this aware.
Not sure if it's just bad luck, or is this happening with everyone at the moment.

So which one gave you a good fix and what were the rates?

I'm with Scottish power it was an exclusive fix. They could've offered me a cheaper one but didn't.I'm still in conversations with them to see if they will. See another thread where I discuss this.
    I'm in economy 7
Standing charge 23.29. I opted for this because I'm out all day and it was cheaper than anywhere other company and depends on your region.
Day rate 34.30 again don't mind this as I'm out all day
Night rate 16.90 again this is better for me come winter when I use the storage  heaters more
What's offered may not be available ormay not be in your area.
Edited just to say I'm s very low user anyway. No gas to property annual electric bills are no more than £450 this year which was on my old tarrif obviously it'll be a lot more now
  • Sorry to go a bit OT but which suppliers do you classify as the big 6 nowadays. To me they are BG, E.ON, EDF, OVO, SP & Octopus.

BG, E ON, EDF, SP and SSE
    Iforgot about ovo and octopus
I did a quote with octopus that came out more than double my fix
  • OVO and SSE are the same company. The current world events mean prices have shot up again in the last couple of days, so as you've found out you won't find anything remotely close to what you've been offered.

    Really.
I just moved my electric to Octopus at 35.13p a kwh + 25.08p a day. As a low user the lower standing charge almost makes up for the higher units but not quite but I'm happy to pay an extra £12 a year to avoid a potential rise in October. Its a one year fix, no exit fee.
I left my gas with BG (SoLR) for now.

Do you have gas as well?
  • I'm so glad I fixed when I did. My old fix wasn't due to end for over a month, but I worked out the difference between what I'd used in the last month on my old tarrif , then roughly what ii may use between now and the end of the that tarrif. Then used those rough figures on the new tarrif and yes it's going to cost me about £40 + more but with the new tarrif that ends April 2023 and I won't get an increase come October 2022.
It's was a nightmare to work out but I had help from members on here and a Facebook forum.

I've just taken the Octopus 12 month fix, electric only, for my new house. I'd be going over to them eventually, once I've got solar PV and an EV, but the low daily charge is attractive whilst I'm doing the place up.
