Security Clearence

I am going through SC clearance for a civilian role with the MOD. I have poor credit, several defaults and owe just short of 20k.
I am tackling this though and have a DMP in place plus I pay extra to get my balances down. I have been honest on the questionnaire. It’s been 4 weeks now and I’m worried sick I’ll fail clearance.
Any advice?

SC Clearance is about working out if you could be bribed or subject to manipulation - a bankruptcy or large debts are red flags for sure. We went through it at work and the amount of detail they want e.g. parent's place of birth, suggests they will have a thorough check of your account. I wouldn't worry as you can't control it but debt and defaults might be a rejection reason as, even though I am sure you are totally honest, a computer might think you would a potential risk as you could be offered money to help you out in return for favours - again, not saying you will be, just how algorithms operate.

The biggest risk for security is if you didn’t declare everything. If you were open and honest, this will work in your favour. If you hide debt, they’ll see you as a bribery risk. If you’re open and honest then much less so as you would be able to approach your Chain of command should you be bribed. this things do take a long time, mine was close to 9 weeks for SC and close to 3 months for DV
