Repair or replace? Washer dryer

Hi
I've an integrated washer dryer, Indesit brand. Had for 9 years 1 month.
It's started to leak water on the left of the machine. Not a lot but it's happening when it's draining I think some water comes on the floor.
Anyway given the call out charge for a plumber and the cost of replacement part - I'm not handy so would not attempt this myself- and the life span of machines it makes more sense to just buy a new one right?
I've found one for circa £400, brand is ElectriQ.

That's a toughie, Caz. How much use does it get? And does it otherwise work fine, with no untoward vibes or noises?
A leak is usually easy to locate and sort, and often cheap to do so too - in parts at least. But, you need to have a good local appliance fixer with an acceptable hourly rate. (On that point, I'd have thought 1-2 hours tops.)
Mil's Bosch WM started leaving puddles on the floor during draining, and first obvious place to check was drain hose/waste pipe setup. Nope, all good. Puddle was under front corner where det drawer is, but no obvious trail. Took out filter and could feel coin in pipe on the inlet to the pump - couldn't pull it out so had to turn WM upside down. A stretch, but could reach pump fairly easily.
Mystery, tho' - how could a coin blocking the INLET to the pump cause water to be ejected? AND, the exit point of the leak remains a mystery - no signs of water anywhere inside the machine... :-(
Anyhoo, I guess first try your filter!
Ok, you're not up for 'fixing' this, but can you or someone else at least pull the WM out, turn it around, and remove the back panel - usually a half-doz or more screws? With drain hose still in waste, and fingers well away from belts and pulleys, run a quick cycle and shine a bright torch in there. If you can ID the leak location (ie, do better than me), then you/we should be able to give you a good idea of likely cost.
Factor that in to condition of machine, and make your call.
A photo of the offending part would help too...0 -
You don't need a plumber, you need a domestic appliance repairer. Search locally to see if anyone will come and give a free quote. It's the sort of fault that should be easy to diagnose, repair though could be anything from 5 minutes to not possible.
The problem with ElectriQ is that you will probably have no idea who actually made the thing.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Thank you
I use it a few loads per week it's just me so not heavy usage. It's not shuddering or anything and runs like normal bar some water on the floor.
To be fair it was only £350 in 2013 so it's not done badly.
Yes ElectriQ is a gamble but it seems that I could spend £1000 and still only get 9 years out of it as from what I've read 9 or 10 years is average lifespan these days for a washer dryer.
It's very unlikely to be coins in the machine as I never keep cash in my pockets, only in a handbag.0 -
Washer dryers are complex. It might be worth spending a little more.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

My old style washer / dryer in my last home lasted many ..many years .My present washer/ dryer is less than 5 years old . Last year a crack formed on the door.
Now there are other cracks appearing . Over the last few weeks I was beginning to think my flat was haunted due to the door of the washing machine opening at Will and anytime.
last year it refused to work at all ...until I managed to reset it somehow trying various settings and washes with clothes trapped in there and door not opening !
I'm sharing my experience here as I think I may be in the same boat in the not too distant and replacing the Hotpoint I presently have .I won't be buying a hotpoint again ( or it's relations ) and as this is mse I may buy something around £500 max and expect that to last 4 years and then repeat the process .
watching this with interest . Please keep us updated ..0 -
