Also had an email today from £105.00 to £178.57.

But it's variable, need to find a fixed tariff ASAP.
  • I was planning to cut down energy use as much as possible to offset the increase but I noticed in the letter today that the standing charge for electric has doubled, so no matter how little I use my bills will nearly double.  Very sneaky :-( I will be moving unless others have decided to do the same.
Unless you’re an incredibly low user the increase in the standing charge won’t come close to doubling your bills. It’s an extra 20-30p a day, so still significant, but spread over the course of the year it really will be the least of your worries compared to the unit price increase.

  • I too have received a letter from Bulb - strangely dated 21st June 2021 - but mine just tells me they project I'll spend about £1 extra on fuel per week.  I can only assume that although they give prices before and after June this year, they're only projecting until October, when things may (hopefully) change again.
  • My advice is that you perform your own calculations using the new daily rate, and the new unit rates, based on your actual consumption for the last 12 months. Work out what that will cost, subtract any credit balance (or add any debit balance), divide by 12 and offer to pay Bulb that each month. Anyone who thinks they will find a fixed rate lower than the OFGEM cap is in cloud cuckoo land.

My letter from Bulb has also arrived. Mine is going up from £180 to £303 and this for an economy 7 tariff as we’re 100 electricity. Such a big jump, hope I can find a cheaper provider/tariff.
Going off what I've seen of other people's rates, Bulb is still the cheapest I've seen.

Now if only our government gave a sh*t about the rest of us.

Bulb is no cheaper than any other supplier's varable tariff. It is charging the highest rate it's allowed to.

Another reminder, you don't have to pay by fixed rate DD if you don't want to. I am with bulb and pay only for what I use each month, still by DD but without them using me as a cash advance service

Ours is set to double. What I don't understand - and apologies if this has been covered - is if 100% of their elec is from renewable sources, why does the cost of wholesale gas matter? Surely that'd just impact the gas price?
They don't generate their own electric. It's bought in. Markets determine the selling price. Whatever the original source it becomes irrelevant in the bigger picture. Renewable energy is historically more expensive to produce.
  • I got the same email although mine only outlined the unit & standing charge increases ie not monthly payment increase. Looking at the app I pay £150pm currently and it now recommends £213.
  • Here’s ours “

We're increasing our electricity unit rate from 20.581p to 27.865p per kWh and electricity standing charge from 25.083p to 48.127p per day.

We're increasing our gas unit rate from 4.046p to 7.367p per kWh and standing charge from 26.112p to 27.219p per day.

These prices all include VAT at 5%. “

That doubling of the electric standing charge is a kicker! Still marginal relative to the whole bill. Gas going from 4p to 7.3p is brutal. My calcs for my usage last month vs same readings with new tarriff is £120 last month to £200 in April. That’s gas & electric. And we provide readings every month and only pay for what we’ve actually used.

  • I’m not sure why the charges vary depending on where you are in the country… unless you’re really remote is which case you’d not be on mains anyway
