Do you think it would be better to transfer all dd"s and so"s myself rather than trusting them to do it?

In a word, yes. And do it in writing. Ring up and ask each payee for a DD mandate form but, when received, fill it out, photocopy it and post it back. You should get a written confirmation for each one.

If anything goes pear-shaped, you now have the evidence to hit them with. When I switched current accounts, GE Capital set up their DD for only the minimum payment. My copy of the form clearly showed that I'd asked them to do it for the full amount. I got a very apologetic reply to my complaint and a £5 goodwill credit on the account.

Its not rocket science and, with the best will in the world, the bank transfer teams cannot give every one as much individual attention as you can.

Keep enough money in the old account to meet them, just in case. When all have been taken successfully from the new account, transfer the balance of the old account to the new one and close it.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

i have to agree their service is terrible i'm just glad its over and done with they do not offer a professional service - i have to admit though i have only ever spoken with uk customer service advisors but to be honest their lack of knowledge and their rude manner has shone a whiole new light on the company and i would not reccommend anyone to use them after the experience i have had.
