Disputing an Error on Credit File

Options
Hi,

I have recently been starting to look at my credit report and have noticed an error.

I took our a payday loan with Instant Cash Loans Ltd t/as The Money Shop.

I made all payments on time each month as per the agreement. As some may, or may not know, the company went into liquidation and at the time I had only one payment left to make. The payment was never taken and I have just noticed that they recorded a missed payment on my credit report.

I have spent days trying to find contact details for the company, even speaking with the insolvency practitioner, but to no avail.

my question is, how on earth am I supposed to get this corrected/removed from my file?

any advice would be welcome!

Thanks.

  • You could try disputing it via the CRAs, though as the payment was missed, it's an accurate marker.

But how old is the missed payment? It will have minimal impact if a few years old and may not be worth pursuing.

Sorry, I don’t think my original message had enough detail.
The payment itself wasn’t missed, I made the payment over the phone in a timely manner after they wrote to me stating that they were entering liquidation.
however when the usual direct debit came around, nothing was taken (presumably as there was a nil balance remaining on the loan) but I can see a missed payment indicator showing from that month.

it’s from 2017 so quite a while ago. I just like things to be accurate.

A five year old missed payment is unlikely to have any effect on your credit file.  There is little point expending a lot of energy just because you're a bit OCD about accuracy.

You'd be far better served dealing with that desire for accuracy in the long run.
