New security checks for online shopping - Lloyds bank

  • I may be wrong - I am only going on my experience of my online banking with Lloyds - but adding my partners number to my online banking account wouldn’t work I don’t think because whilst I can add another phone number, I cannot add my partners bank card so the phone numbers would only link to MY debit card and not his. This was the reason I had to register him for online banking too. If that makes sense.

    That may well be the case - but the OP (in the opening post) thinks that;

    As it stands it would seem that when she places an order I would get the alert, which clearly is not what we want.

    Which would imply that all he has to do is add her number to his profile.

    Worth him giving it a try at least.

     The OP only says 'it would seem' which would imply he has not tried it but is assuming since only his number is registered any text would come to that number.

    iF she wants to do internet shopping with her debit card she may need to be registered for internet banking although she may never need to access the account after registering.

    It sounds like it could all be resolved by your wife calling  Lloyds
  • If it's a debit card then they she needs to register her numbers against her profile to work with her card.
    Putting her details on your profile (even if shared won't work) - she needs to call or visit a branch.

    We've tried calling them and get the message about extremely high call volumes and to try again later.  That's why I'm trying to find alternative ways of getting this resolved.

    I am not sure I understand. If it is a joint account then both debit cards are already linked to the account surely?

    Asking again:  Have you actually tried adding the extra phone number as suggested above.

    Some have suggested it won't work, others suggest it will.

    Have you tried it?  And if so, does it work?  If it does you have no need to try ringing Lloyds.

    I think there are only 2 ways or resolving this:
    1.  Call at a quieter time like 7 or 8am.
    2.  Get your wife to register for internet banking so that she can update the content details there.  Even if she never plans to use it again, it’s sensible to have it set up - then if anything unexpected happens to you she will still have the means to easily manage the account.

    Be retro and go into a Lloyds or BOS branch; they will be able to update details on the spot.
