Virgin Money Credit Card

Looking for some help… I transferred a large balance on a 0% interest to a Virgin Money Credit Card. My husband is self employed and my direct debit date wasn’t matched with the date I get paid. The direct debit was due on the 7th and I hadn’t transferred enough funds into my checking account. I noticed and paid the very next day. So the payment wasn’t missed and there hasn’t been an impact to my credit file. However I have lost the promotional rate. I called up and explained, I’ve never missed a payment ever and I paid the very next day but they have refused to reinstate the promotional rate because I don’t qualify on their matrix. This seems unreasonable as I made the payment the very next day and in the t&c I was told it would be fine as long as I didn’t miss the payment but now they are saying it’s because the DD failed. Is there anything I can do? Any advice would be appreciated…!!

It's a normal thing for the T&Cs to state that you need to pay the minimum on time. Having failed to do that you then did the right thing in paying asap and calling them to ensure they were aware.
I've found that a card company may allow 1 mistake before sticking strictly to their rules and unfortunately this hasn't happened for you. You could try ringing them again to see if you get a different answer and then if that doesn't work ask to have it logged as a complaint.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Complaining is a bit of a hail mary sort of thing as they have not done anything wrong and are under no obligation to reinstate an offer after you breached the terms, asking / grovelling / pleading hardship is going to be your best bet
If your payment was due on the 7th and you paid on the 8th, it was missed, it would be a bonus if they have not marked your credit file0 -
Thank you for your help. They told me that they don’t impact your credit file until your account goes into arrears at which point the payment is classed as “missed” which is a saving grace.1

Maybe use an account that sends notifications when DDs are about to be taken.
Starling do this and it's very helpful ensuring money is in the account.
Also, change the direct debit date on the card....1 -
Thank you, I’ll look into that! I’ve now changed the DD date or I think I have as the advisor couldn’t tell me whether it would be done or not & to just keep an eye on it..!!0

The DD will be taken x days before the "Payment Due" date (detailed in the T&Cs), which in turn is based upon the date the statement is generated. So you need to change the statement date. This in itself is not a problem - I've yet to find a card that won't change the statement date if you ask them. But you do need to make sure you're clear on whether the statement date has been changed.

Thank you for this, yes this is what she was trying to explain. She said she changed the “cycle date” so the statement generates on x date and the DD will collect 20 days after that. She was just unsure whether this would be done in time for March or whether it would be April. Either way I’ll keep an eye on it! It was an expensive mistake to make…!!0
