What's the standard process?

We've booked directly with TUI Airlines now on a direct flight to Cancun and my daughter will get the bus and ferry over to Coz. So, we're all sorted and I think everyone for all their help including yourself.

How did you find Cozumel? Daughter will be there for about 8 weeks training to become a PADI Divemaster. 

Do you have good local information? I have heard disturbing accounts of armed robberies on passenger buses, so I hope that you are confident that this is a good idea.

Been plenty of times but always as a day trip. Its clearly highly touristic and being a small island more expensive than Playa which in itself is more expensive than normal Mexico.

We like it, the beaches there don't suffer from the seaweed issue that the mainland does, but just like Playa, its not very Mexican

I think going to any country like this you will find stories of armed violence, some will be true and others won't be. If you go to the Playa bus station, that's conveniently 5mins from the ferry terminal, you will see long queues of tourists for the ADO buses to the airport etc. Clearly the overwhelming majority travel without problems.

Anyone can be unlucky, and my party days are behind me, but the only thing I wouldn't do is get involve in drugs (and there are people trying to sell them fairly openly). Much of the violence is around the supply and so mixing in just increases your risk. A couple of weeks ago in Tulum our taxi got stuck in traffic with the chatter on the CB radio thing being it was a drug deal gone bad that had closed the road after a shooting. 

Adding up all the trips and holidays etc we've probably spent 5 years in Mexico and never had a problem or witnessed any violence. By the flip side have been in US probably for about 6 months and have been held up at gun point twice in NYC
