Higher Education Reform

The Government has today announced plans to introduce a higher education loan scheme to help people study, train or retrain at any point during their lives via flexible courses. The loan, dubbed the 'lifelong loan entitlement', will be worth the equivalent of four years of post-18 education. Here's all you need to know.

    As suspected/expected, applies to England only.

    Sloppy journalism from MSE: the article writer, when reheating the news release, clearly didn't apply proper journalism skills to read between the lines of what was, and was not, actually being said, and inadvertently implied that this is a UK-wide plan.

    Reminder for journalists based in England who have little/no lived experience of the rest of the UK (sadly far too frequently and repeatedly needed, it's only been this way for two decades, after all): the federal government only acts as the "UK Government" in a very limited number of non-devolved areas, and most of its activities nowadays are actually acting in the role of a regent 'Government for England', with the governments of the other countries of the UK setting their own policies in most areas of government work.
