Annex remodeling architecture fees

Hi folks, we recently purchased a property which has an attached annex. The layout was awful so we want to remodel it, put in  a new dormer, knock down retaining walls etc. I found an architect who did some fixed fee architecture with unlimited changes for about £800 for the plans for the council which I was happy with.
Planning approval has been granted now we're onto the second stage and the prices seem excessive
Firstly Ive been told 3 things are now required.
1) structural engineer fee for proposed works
2) technical drawings from the architect which I guess is what the builders go off and are provided to building control
3) building control visit and signoff

The prices I've been given inc vat are
1) 1750
2) 1500
3) 1000

This seems quite high, are the architects chancing their arm or is this what it usually costs?

I'm in Bedfordshire if that makes any odds

Just to add the prices in 1,2and3 are for those things so it's over £4500 total

You can employ a structural engineer and building control yourself, without paying a mark up or wondering if there is one.

I can't tell if those prices are right without knowing the level of work required to the building.

You can work without building control drawings but it depends on whether builders will want them.  They will form part of your contract with the builder too, so you need good trust without full plans.  Any decent builder knows what requirements are.

£800 was cheap for unlimited changes to design.  £1500 isn't exactly bad for working drawings.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks that's good to know, I appreciate there will be some sort of mark up involved as everyone needs to earn a bit but just wondered whether the prices quoted were reasonable thanks
