Green homes grant is farcical
I recently discovered my council was participating in the LAD scheme where you can get up to £10k of improvements to your insulation.
I duely applied via the EON website and had a call back from a lady at EON.
My house is a 1996 property with full fibre blown insulation which appears to have little to no effect, in fact, in my gable wall it got wet and all fell to the bottom of the wall and made the internal brick wet, which ruined the internal wall over time, I had to pay £6k to have it removed and have cavity trays installed but I digress...
I appear to struggle to heat the house to a comfortable level, gas usage I feel I high, using 60+kwh a day just to heat it (barely) 19c, it often doesn't even reach its set point before the heat is off for the night.
The top room of the house is the front room and it floats over a road (Mews style) which leads to the car park behind, it has a mezzanine and a pitched roof.
With the discovery of the scheme I was hopeful that I would be able to get some real improvements, however because the house has cavity wall already, no matter how ineffective, and that my loft has an assumed 20mm of insulation I don't qualify for either wall or ceiling insulation, they won't even consider putting insulation board over the existing pitched roof in the front room which you can feel is notably cold to the touch where the joists are located.
The only thing I was offered was floor insulation, which considering the house is stud built would be horribly disruptive and in my opinion, provide little to no improvement, further more the company they have chosen to do the work has terrible reviews.
It seems like because its basically free money, they don't actually care about whether it makes a difference, I expected someone to come survey the house with a FLIR or similar but it just seems like as long as the work is done (whether it makes a difference or not) they get paid and ultimately that's all they care about.

The Green Homes Grant was intended for older homes that are very inefficient from an energy conservation standpoint, mostly built 50-whatever years ago.
You bought a crap house 26 years ago and want the taxpayer to pay for it.
And you're surprised they're saying no to rebuilding it?1 -
As I read this your lounge has a mezzanine and a very high ceiling - perhaps 5m
What is your flooring ? Fully carpeted, underlay and lining.?
Do you know what the insulation is under the floor. ? I have a house with the lounge over my garage. Our first winter was very cold. We took down the existing garage ceiling, stuffed it with insulation and double layered with plasterboard.- the benefit was considerableNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -

Was your floor, before the addition of insulation, noticeably cold to the touch?4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.0
