Definition of Back Billing
Hello everyone, I was wondering if I could ask for advice regarding my electricity supplier.
They regularly send me estimated bills and havent had a meter reading since 2016. We've had a dispute for about 2 years because they keep asking me to have a prepayment meter but there is nowhere suitable for it to be fitted (this was confirmed by their rep that visited, but ignored by the supplier).
Theyve just asked me for a meter reading and plan to send me a revised, accurate bill. Does this constitute back billing?
thanks for any replies.

thanks for any replies. It's not back-billing. It will be an accurate bill after years of estimates because you didn't give them readings presumably.Did you ever try to give them a meter reading?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Why didn’t you give your own readings? If billing code was applied just because estimated bills were sent over a few years, everyone who’s meters were indoors would be at it. It works both ways, energy company has a responsibility to try to get readings, if they cant’t they should send letters/messages that customers should respond to or when they see the bill is estimated, read the meter themselves0

Ofgem says of the back billing rules - "They may not apply if you have behaved obstructively or unreasonably, preventing accurate billing."
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
