Toyota Aygo Starting Issue

Hi i have a 2015 Toyota Aygo and since recently buying it i've noticed that there are quite a lot of times when it struggles to start, it has always started but sometimes it's a real effort (if that makes sense). Most other cars i've had start up straight away. It just seems unusual and makes me wonder if there is an issue with the engines on these cars or if i'm doing something wrong? It's serviced up to date etc

These engines are very reliable. Even as small capacity three cylinder they will do 100,000 miles with little work over and abive servicing.

Obvious things to check are. Battery, fuel, spark, and air flow/cam position sensors.

Has it had a Toyota service in the last 12 months and done less than 100,000 miles?  If so it has a 12 month warranty you can take advantage of.

There are a few simple things you can check/do.

Check the battery connections, they have been known to come loose, this causes a poor power draw from the battery at start up and often effects the ignition system/spark as the power available gets drawn to the starter, same goes for a low battery.

You can sometimes get immobiliser faults with these (and the C1 and 107), change the battery in the fob or try the other key or both.

There was a problem with the wiring to the starter motor on these, I think there was a revised part available but couldn't tell you how to check it.

Other than that you need some diagnostic done on it.
Things like fuel pressure, cam, MAP/IAT and crank sensor, throttle body checks (these are noted for getting dirty and clogging up with gunk from the engine breather).

I got the battery checked out and all appeared fine. One thing to add is that if I press the accelerator down as I’m trying to start it that usually helps….

When our Yaris needed a lot of turning over to fire up, new spark plugs sorted the problem.
