I'd expect ANPR to be designed to flag up "this is not a valid registration" to the operator.
Not much use if it's not real time

It depends how much effort is put into it. There would likely be some footage to allow the police to identify a make/model and keep an eye out for it.

It may also be more or less real time, so  they might be able to catch it in motion.

However, there aren't that many cameras so it could go months or years without setting one off.

Not if it doesn't relate to anything. The only way it'll get caught is manned equipment and they recognise it hasn't read or if a report is created against the none registration number.
Yeah I’m not one to go out of my way to report but sooner or later someone would end up doing it due to the way the person drives

I have no qualms at all about reporting this sort of thing.

Its not fair if he had an accident and it might be me or my kids involved. Most of us pay a fortune to keep legal on the road and don't see why anyone should avoid it.

But more than happy to post on a forum 🤦‍♀️👀 Lets hope that your lack of action does not end someone getting hurt.

They will only get caught by ANPR if it pings a police car & they decide to stop them.

    Ah yes...

You'd need a live link to DVLA to flag "This registration has never been issued / has been cancelled" as opposed to an offline list of "There is a marker on this registration."

If it's a fixed camera - there could be a live link that then puts a marker on that registration.  If it's a camera in a vehicle, they won't get a flag until the next update of the list of markers. I'd hope they update at the start of each shift.

So better for the OP to report and hopefully get a marker on that registration.
I need to think of something new here...

    It doesn't work like that.

We all have time to post on here, surely we have the time to report things.
We are paying hundreds of pounds to be legal, surely everyone should be doing that?

It's not complicated anpr reads number plates and checks them against specific databases. It will not produce anything if there is no match.

It'll check each number against a live database, report it if there's some issue, or just throw it away (or archive it) if it's all clear.

So in theory a car should flag up seconds after being reported.

But a nonexistent plate will be thrown away.
