Missed payments showing on Transunion - incorrect

Hoping someone can help - I'm in the process of applying for a mortgage. I've checked my credit report with the three credit agencies and have seen on my Transunion report there is information on there that shouldn't be.

It is a HP with VW Finance - first opened in March 2014. The account is under "open accounts" section, but is showing as "settled". However, for every month for the last 6 years it is showing as missed payments.
I did default on this account back in 2015, and over the last two years I've been making monthly payments to Blake Morgan to clear the debt.

I'm confused as to why it's still open and showing as missed payments even though it's marked as "settled".

I have disputed this information twice over recent months, but getting nowhere. Can anyone help?

  • If you defaulted, then it should be showing as defaulted each month, though missed payment is similar. If its not yet paid off, then it's open.

It will drop off your files 6 years from default.

That's strange, it should have dropped off by now then as the default was in 2015.
  • Are you sure it was marked as defaulted? If it's showing missed payments, strongly suggests it wasn't.

You'd be best off to argue for a backdated default.

Pretty certain - I had to go to a specialist mortgage lender because of it. The account doesn't appear on my Experian report anymore but still on Transunion for some reason.

Lenders don't need to report to all the agencies. The fact you're getting missed payments suggests maybe they never defaulted you which is a bit naughty as it prevents it disappearing

Got a feeling they reported the default to Experian back in 2015, and that's why it's no longer there, and didn't do the same for Transunion. How do I go about getting them to back date a default?! Do I need to get in touch with VW directly?

You'd need to ask them nicely (as ICO guidance is just guidance, not law) but quote the ICO guidance of defaulting after 3 missed contractual payments and see, but they may not do. What should happen is they default you, debt is sold on (I guess, no idea if Blake Morgan are a third party or in-house for VW) and then the old one is marked as settled and the new firm defaults and then reports monthly themselves

Cheers! I've sent them a polite email with ICO guidance quoted so I'll see what sort of response I get... fingers crossed!
