Hi.
Have just been offered a fixed tariff by my energy supplier, but the standing charge has more than doubled. I only have electricity not gas. Can anyone explain why this charge has increased so much? I understand why the price has increased for the electric but not the standing charge. Thank you

The government cap on fuel prices did not as far as I'm aware include a cap on standing charges I may be wrong ?My charges amount to almost £200 / year on a fixed tariff for both meters, however there are according to the government figures 26 million homes in the UK with more being built every day, so 26 million x £200 minimum = 5.2 £BILLION so why are paying this amount when the companies are already making vast profits in the 1st place. Will some knowledgeable person please start a government petition for us all to sign and getting something done ASAP.0

There’s a fairly clear explainer page on MSE, has a table that shows average SC cap prices too.XAV8R said:The government cap on fuel prices did not as far as I'm aware include a cap on standing charges I may be wrong ?
