British Gas dispute

Options
I’ve recently been switched over to British Gas as my supplier ceased to trade and since the new British Gas account has appeared on my credit file my score has dropped my 147 points and it’s listed as disputed despite the fact I’ve over ever had one bill from them since joining and it being paid in full and on time. Has anyone else had this?

As long as it's not a missed payment and your account is up to date, that's fine. Your 147 points were not real points, so their loss is nothing to worry about.

  • As above, ignore your score (and any changes) and focus on the material facts. BG is your supplier so it's fair that they report on your credit files, but what's not fair is if they are not reporting your data properly. Are there any missed payment markers? If you're up-to-date and there's no negative markers then I'd leave it alone. Otherwise lodge a formal complaint with BG to rectify it.
  • Thanks for your reply. No missed payment markers or anything negative but just wondered why it was listed as disputed. I’m done to remortgage soon so keen to keep my score up

Don't try to keep your score up or you'll inevitably end up doing the wrong thing. Just keep your accounts in order and minimise or, better still, eliminate any debt.

Lenders do not see the gimmick score that the CRAs produce, no decision on lending is ever made based on that number, they score you based on their own systems/criteria and you will never see that score

No need.  It is only ever seen by you and it is not used in lending decisions.
