What may happen if your on an EV tariff but no longer own an EV

or even never had one to begin with? What process do companies use to check you have an EV?

    Some ask to see the registration document on sign up.

    Have you look at the T&Cs for that tariff and does it specifically require you to have an EV? If so I would have thought it should then set out what happens if you no longer have one.  

    In any event isn't it more likely that if you no longer have an EV a more normal single rate tariff would be better as the non special hours rates are presumably a lot lower than those on the EV tariff and its unlikely you would be still be using sufficient electricity during those special hours to compensate?

    Not if you have home batteries.

    The answer to the original question is you would be moved to the the Standard Variable Rate, or you can choose one of the available fixed tariffs.
    As for how they would check, in the first instance, if you claim you have an EV but do not then you are committing fraud, so that isn't a great start, and your usage pattern will usually make it obvious if they choose to look..
    Some will ask for the V5, or for some tariffs the VIN may be required.
