nVidia Shield Pro 2019 / the remote - not working

Options
Bought it late on last year & got it up and running middle/late December. All was well ... until tonight.

Pick up the remote & notice the buttons don't light up. Then I notice it wont turn the TV on and the Shield itself isn't lit.
Test the batteries ... dead. Not so good I thought since it's only been in use for about 2 months. Oh well.
New Duracell's in and still wont illuminate (remote).

Test these only to find one of the brand new batteries is also dead. Not sure how.

So get MORE NEW batteries, test these before putting in & then go ahead with it as they're good.

Remote still wont illuminate. Still wont turn the TV or Shield on.

Press all manner of buttons. Nothing. Power - nothing. The lines in the top right - nothing. Everything - nothing.

Press & hold select - remote starts flashing. However if i press absolutely any button at all after this, the remote stops illuminating and goes dead.

All throughout this the Shield doesn't illuminate. Nothing happening on the TV.

What gives?

  • It won't pair unless your Shield is turned on.

Turn it on, then go through pairing process as per the above link.
  • I think something may be going on with it.

I've real limited time tonight unfortunately so it's going to be something for tomorrow or the weekend now.

Just now tried it in a different room, different TV after it being unplugged all day.

Connected all up yet when I went to input, HDMI was greyed out. Flicked the power switch - nothing.

I thought ok maybe the HDMI cable has gone duff. Doubtful as it's not been yanked in any way and it's a good solid cable but let's give it a go - and so I tried with a 100% working one.

Again the HDMI input didn't light up, it stayed greyed out. The nVidia shield itself, never mind the remote, didn't power up.

I suspect my next thing to try is the power adapter, but it's one of those ones with a stupid connector so i'll have to buy in a new one just to test it out.

My older shield remote batteries failed. I had similar issue not being able to connect the remote. I used my android phone to download the official shield remote app. On WiFi this woke the shield and then I could enter the settings to pair the newly powered remote. All good now apart from the very annoying ads on the homepage.

    Thanks

Gave that a try last night but sadly no go. It said it couldn't detect the network or some message to that effect.

Be nice if they sold the power adapter individually but they don't. Genius.

Has a stupid connector too so I don't have one I can use off something else.

Well I got in touch with nvidia. Their CS were pretty decent although didn't get back to me with an RMA when they said they would. Had to follow it up.

When it came... Not so great.

The label is a FedEx label to send it back to Hong Kong.

The nearest FedEx to me is about an hours drive away according to the site and a 100 mile round trip.

    Not great.

And weirdly they only want the Shield itself, no remote, no power adapter. So if the power adapter is the cause which it may well be then a new device is going to be no good to me.

Why I can't just send EVERYTHING back and get a complete replacement is beyond me.

*edited as said I'd got in touch with fedex. Meant nvidia.
