Hi all - 1st time poster!

Late last year I booked a holiday via Tui to Mexico flying with United Airlines. At the time of booking I was presented with a selection of alternative flight times incurring additional charges from the lowest available price

As one such flight option got us into our resort 3 hours earlier we decided to pay the extra (£85) to take this option.

Since then the earlier flight that I paid an increase in cost for has been cancelled. As a result I have been deferred back onto the original flight that was at the time of booking £85 cheaper.

Although disappointed I can take the later flight, however I feel I should be entitled to the extra money I paid to change the flights when booking.

I've spoken to Tui twice with no joy  and I'm trying to get into dialogue with United Airlines.

Just wondering if anyone has had any similar experience or can advise on my rights to a refund?

Your rights will be governed by the Package Travel Regulations plus TUI's booking terms, and as such it's TUI rather than United that you should be dealing with, as you don't have any direct contractual relationship with the airline here.

However, a change such as this would be deemed insignificant in the context of such terms and regulations, so there doesn't appear to be any legal or contractual entitlement to any refund, but it'd not unreasonable to ask them to make a goodwill gesture, even if there isn't anything that'll force them to repay the difference.  Maybe use their social media channels to see if you can embarrass them into action?
  • Thanks I appreciate the advice.
