My partner and I bought a car in January that TFL had on their TFL vehicle checker as ULEZ compliant. We double checked this many times.
Today we were horrified to find that we were fined over £300 for various trips into the ULEZ zone. We rechecked ULEZ checked and now says it is not compliant.
What can we do about this? We don't exactly have any screenshots of the vehicle checker saying it was compliant however the sale itself was based on it being compliant. Extremely frustrated and stressed over this.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ways-to-meet-the-standardThe ULEZ standards are:
- Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
- Euro 4 (NOx) for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
- Euro 6 (NOx and PM) for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles
What are the Euro standards and when did they come into effect?
Euro standards are a range of emissions controls that set limits for air polluting nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) from engines. New vehicles and road vehicle engines must show that they meet these limits to be approved for sale:
- Euro 3 became mandatory for all new motorcycles in 2007
- Euro 4 became mandatory for all new cars in 2005 and light vans in 2006
- Euro 6 became mandatory for all new heavy duty engines for goods vehicles and buses from January 2014, September 2015 for cars and light vans, and September 2016 for larger vans up to and including 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight.
When was the car first registered and what fuel type is it?
Did the Dealer selling you the car specifically state that the car was ULEZ-compliant?1 -
What car is it? What year of manufacture? AFAIK Euro 6 has been the standard for diesel cars, which I assume you are using, from the beginning.Quite possible there was a glitch on the system but you are going to have a difficult proving it, unless of cause it is a glitch causing the penalties.0

I have tried to find out online what the Euro rating is - Most places are saying the vehicle Euro 5. I can't find any official paper or mentioned in the log book.
In all honesty, I can't remember if the dealer said it was. I can definitely say that we checked the ULEZ checker and the vehicle was in fact compliant at the time of purchase.0 -
I am sure we can confirm it’s Euro rating if you give us the make, model and year of manufacture, but if it is a Euro 5 diesel it has never been compliant.0

Jaguar XF Luxury D Auto 2015
The TfL site definitely said ULEZ compliance0 -

just checked 3 cars I know are euro 5 and euro 6 and it was right all 3 times.0 -
A 2015 diesel XF Luxury would be a 2011-2015 model range where all diesels are Euro 5 which is not ULEZ compliant.
The 2015-2020 models which did not have a Luxury trim (believe it was branded Prestige) are Euro 6 compliant and would be ULEZ compliant.
If you selected the wrong Model year then you could have seen it as compliant when in fact your variant was the previous model.1
