Self Assessment - incorrect

  • According to my on-line HMRC account - I am registered for Self Assessment
    How / Why / When ?
I have never been self assessed - and am now retired
Also - my income for next FY has been incorrectly estimated at about 95% of this FY's amounts - I have corrected that by adding  3.1% to my pensions
What is going on with HMRC ?
    I said "I have never been self-employed"
    Hi,
    there's a bit of a difference.

    Further confused by

‘I was last registered for SA - over 10 years ago - I have been on PAYE ever since then’

Some clarification needed as to why/if the op was registered for SA or has never been self-assessed.

Self Assessment isn't specifically for the self employed.

There are lots of reasons why a Self Assessment return might need to be completed.

Well - I didnt apply for SA

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

I was on SA for a couple of years in 2010 because I was unsure as to my income stream at the time - but cancelled this in 2012

OK - so you are registered for self-assessment and won’t need to need to re-register should the need arise! That’s the long and the short of it. What you ’cancelled’ was the necessity to file a Self Assessment tax return every year, which has clearly worked as you would otherwise be awash with penalties by now.

Yes but why after 10 years has SA suddenly reappeared in my account?
