Self Assessment - incorrect

in Cutting tax
According to my on-line HMRC account - I am registered for Self Assessment
How / Why / When ?
I have never been self assessed - and am now retired
Also - my income for next FY has been incorrectly estimated at about 95% of this FY's amounts - I have corrected that by adding 3.1% to my pensions
What is going on with HMRC ?
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Does it show if a Self Assessment return has been issued for any tax year(s)?
Could you have now met one of the various criteria HMRC have where people with income taxed under PAYE need to complete a tax return?0 -

Could you have now met one of the various criteria HMRC have where people with income taxed under PAYE need to complete a tax return?Nope - no mention other than under account home - It simply says "Your Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) is ......"and under last TY - I paid £0.20 income tax !No messages have been sent to me either

Hi,if you have a UTR, then you must've registered for SA at sometime. From Which:
How to get a UTR number
You won't automatically be given a UTR number. You need to register for self-assessment to be issued with one. Here's how to do it:
- Register for self-assessment online: Before you submit a tax return for the first time - say, after you've started a new business - you need to register for self-assessment, which you can do on the HMRC website. When you do this, you will automatically be assigned a UTR number, which will be sent in a letter through the post.
- Apply over the phone: you can call HMRC on 0300 200 3310 to ask about your UTR number. You may have to provide some details, and they may still direct you to apply online.
- Apply by post: you can write to HMRC to request a UTR number. Be aware that it's likely to take a long time as several letters are likely to go back and forth asking you to provide information.

Is an estimate incorrect, if its at least ballpark? Isn't that exactly what an estimate is?
I suspect they're using the last full years amount. Or a projection based on what you've earned so far this year.
But unless you're close to a rate band, it's unlikely to make a difference as long as its roughly right. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I was last registered for SA - over 10 years ago - I have been on PAYE ever since thenI now see that there is a business account registered under my account - I am a retired private individual with no business links

Were you ever self-employed?0

I am living on ill health pensions - no benefits

I said "I have never been self-employed"

Self Assessment isn't specifically for the self employed.
There are lots of reasons why a Self Assessment return might need to be completed.0
