I agree, you really don't want him back to finish it. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing.
What you need is a refund but how to bring pressure for that is in Doozergirls domain.

  • If I had the choice id take a refund for sure but I’ve been looking down the ombudsman route? It states i need to give the trader chance to rectify the issue, so where do I stand if he offers to come out and repair?

the cupboard door is not repairable I don’t think, because of the material, so my only option is a refund for this I assume?

He should be allowed to rectify it. You should give him 14 days.   You said he was ignoring you?

As I said, I'd do it myself at this point and treat it as a lesson.

FF is an integrated model, and FF & cupboard doors are both 70/30, i can’t understand why it’s like this.. I think the reason they don’t align is because the FF has been sat up so high, making the doors not align (I think anyway)

he wasn’t asked to set it so high, that’s been done off his own back.

The only way I could think of explaining that bodge is if the instructions for the FF say an air gap has to be left at the bottom for ventilation and what he's done is what he thought the instructions required.... might be worth checking the manufacturers instructions to see exactly what they say.  If ventilation is needed then usually large diameter holes drilled in the bottom of the cabinet would be sufficient to allow air in from below, there shouldn't be a need the raise the FF in that way.

Of course this is terrible workmanship, and you should try to rectify the work or get your money back as advised above.

This is a real lesson in making sure you find the right person for the job, then ensuring they understand what the job is... and then inspecting the work before you pay...
  • Interesting about the ventilation, that could be it I’ll check.

and yes 100% a lesson learned.

Update I have had a reply this morning, he said he will come back out one day next week to have a look, no mention of the replacement cupboard door. Will be interesting to see what he says

    Thanks @Doozergirl, I’m glad it’s not just me…

I have an address and company name, and his first name, but can’t seem to find a surname anywhere. I found him on “rated people” with a really good review score so I’m so disappointed.

how would the money claim work? Never used that before.

I do have someone I could ask to help me put it right but almost want him to come back out just to correct his poor work, I’m not exactly skilled with DIY so if anything went wrong I’d be to blame and it’s is problem to begin with.
When he visits you get his surname and address etc if you can.

Hopefully you can sort this out amicably as going to court is to be avoided if possible.

Post again if he is uncooperative or doesn't turn up and we can discuss the correct procedure to follow if you do want to take this to court.

    Good luck
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
