Stuck with business rates on my Gas

Hello everyone,

I am hoping for a little bit of advice here. In November 2021, I moved into a ex military home that had been sold onto a company and they are renting these out. The trouble I've had is no company would admit they are supplying to me, after hours and hours of calls and logging a complaint, I was finally listened to and they discovered I was being supplied by business only energy companies. So I've had loads of trouble trying to set up Gas and Electric. Electric is mostly sorted now but on a really expensive normal retail tarriff with EDF although with the complaint I've managed to get 3 months knocked off my bill. EDF have refused to take on our gas supply.

Gas is just another ball game all together. I am currently being charged business rates, which is £3.72/day standing charge and 14.7000p/kWh, that standing charge alone is nuts. Corona energy who is supplying the gas has several times in the past refused to acknowledge they were the supplier of our gas. We have finally got to the point they are admitting they are our supplier but I have no way of getting rid of these business rates. No supplier wants to take us on.

Is there anything I can do for this? I've tried logging a complaint with Corona Energy but I keep getting fobbed off.

I really can't afford to be paying £110 on just standing charge alone before I've even used any gas at all.

Thanks for any advice.

Try phoning EDF who say they will accept new customers on their Standard Variable Tariff.
Also check with Find My Gas Supplier.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Military housing are supplied by SSE.( Certainly in England) You can change supplier upon occupation but they always revert to SSE ( residential tarrif) at the end of the tenancy.
  • Hi there,
Having just written a similar plea for help in the forum, I came across the thread here. Sorry to hear you've been in the same boat (albeit worse, at least they quickly admitted they supplied us). Have you had any success in switching?
    All the best,
    Amy
