Standing charges on power bills (EON)

I understand my powers usage charges going up but not the even higher hike for standing charges (not power usage) surely this is just profiteering 

The prices from EON

Electricity

Standing charge (per day) 24.017p goes to 37.918p

Unit rate (per kWh) 20.871p goes to 29.239p

Gas

Standing charge (per day) 26.123p goes to 27.219p

Unit rate (per kWh) 4.055p goes to 7.344p

Gas standing charge reasonable inflationary uplift, but electric !!!!

No it isn't. It reflects some (but not all) of the fixed cost of providing you with a connection to the grid.

Answered before, but if you think that is profiteering, just wait until October it goes up again, and then next April when it will increase again by at least 11p.
