I would also take advice from the employment board. I take it you were not paid off as redundancy and all the rights that go with it.
Getting out straight away and the pubn being taken over immieidately rings very loud alarm bells and I suggest you take advice from MSE/ ACAS asap.
Many thanks for your advice, I have contacted ACAS and they said that due to my working for them for less than 12 months, I don't have any employment rights at all. My deputy manager has been working for them for 18 months and he is going to take them to tribunal for unfair dismissal after we have moved out. He has kindly said that he would not move out until I do just in case it gets nasty. (he's a star )Don't sweat the small stuff ................It's all small stuff!0 -
You could explain to the landlord that the rent cheques can be paid direct to him from Housing Benefit, or direct to his bank account which ever he prefers. It's an advantage if you think about it - a far more sercure way of receiving the rent money.
Best of luck with everything, hope you and your little girl are soon settled in your new home.

How quickly will the housing benefit be paid to you? The only reason I ask is that I claimed for housing benefit in july and it took until april the following year to come through. This was 5 years ago though and i was only in arrears for a month as i found a job but it does make it understandable why your landlord might be a bit wary0

I can fully appreciate him being wary but it is so frustrating knowing that i am not going to knock him. All i want is a home for my daughter and me. I don't think he knows what he wants as he is saying that even housing benefit is a bit dodgy.
Basically any tenant either with or without job/bags of cash could knock him, it's a matter of him feeling able to trust me as an individual. Hopefully he will decide that he can trust me, i might be able to stop worrying :-)Don't sweat the small stuff ................It's all small stuff!0 -
If the worst comes to the worst then you may have to take the B&B even just as a temp measure.
Southend's website gives a list of Housing assocs in the area - may be worth trying them. Here's the link http://www.southend.gov.uk/content.asp?section=275&content=23200 -
