Christmas Sun

Hi, i am looking to get a bit of sun over the winter. I will only be able to take a week off so i do not really have the opportunity to go long haul. Could somebody recomend a good place. I was thinking maybe South Africa but it could be a bit pricey for me.

Is it best to go after Christmas day in order for it to be cheaper?

Any advice is welcome.

South Africa sounds good - never been there and good recomendations would be welcome.

Also I was thinking about Cuba... Weather should be very nice, but how about entertainment? :beer: so far I could hear only good feedback, maybe someone here has been up there?

South Africa is brilliant - but it's a very long flight for a week although there's only an hour time difference so no jet lag. The Gambia is an option you could consider - a lot shorter flight and hot with no jet lag. Cost depends very much on demand, if you book a flight travelling on Christmas day is very much cheaper and then you can arrange your own hotel etc. Holiday prices can be halved for the same holiday if its taken after the first week in January, or you return to uk before Xmas. Most decent hotels charge a premium for Xmas Eve/day and New Years Eve - which is compulsary. I'd decide where I really wanted to go and start saving - no-where is cheap at Xmas not even Goa!

What about the Canaries - good winter temperatures and reasonable except for Christmas period.

A late cheapie to Lanzarote should fit the bill. Excellent climate, and lots of places to go. And eating and drinking are good value too.
