Hi,

I’m travelling to America at the end of March. Does anybody know if there is a specific type of mask that has to be worn for travel to the US?

I have heard a few people saying that there is a specific type of mask required to board a flight

Thanks

Ultimately check with your airline but many airlines don't allow cloth masks nor anything with something that looks like a vent. Your basic disposable NHS/surgical style blue/white are by far the most commonly worn though personally on my last flight I had a N95 style simply because that's what I had.

Remember you are only supposed to wear masks for a few hours before changing them so make sure you bring spares... not that anyone is watching/checking.

With alcohol service recommenced and life moving on airlines are getting more lax about people taking their mask off whilst they nurse a beer during a film etc (at least in the higher classes).

For the US, I don't believe there is anything specific.

I have never had a problem with a fabric mask (although did have to wear surgical masks on travel to/from France in accordance with French law).

A US website so an obvious slant but there are a fair few that have become more specific about face coverings as per https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-news/airlines-banning-fabric-face-mask-coverings... some really are slightly worrying that people thought they'd be appropriate for it to be necessary for the airline to say they aren't.

BA just mention for Austria and Italy it must be a FFP2 mask and VS just say they give you FFP2 type on board.
