Light fitting question …

Howdy!
Going through 2’s and 3’s of things going wrong .
This isn’t dramatic really , but I’m not sure if the bill to the electrician will be more than expected..

In November I had 6 light fittings changed in kitchen . Lasted over4 years.
The lights in the bathroom and hallway ( total of 7) will need changing. It looks like the time is imminent..

Problem with bathroom lights ; it Looks like at least one will go anytime. What is happening, is that the lights are hesitant to come on and there is often a delay when switching on . I’m hoping that it’s nothing more / expensive to worry about .  I’ll probably send text and arrange all fittings to be changed at electricians convenience no urgency.

Question is , does anyone think that it could be a more expensive job than just changing the light Fittings.
Times are hard etc 😿

Thank you in advance 😼

  • Ah, well ..
Some of you may remember the hassle I had back in November on here regarding the fittings , and the upshot of that chapter was that I now have the latest fittings ( LED) .

    Picture on its way ..

Final pic is of switch of extractor fan which is normally left on . I turned off yesterday temporarily.
These fittings go through transformers and only the electrician can do these, as mentioned back in November .
Looks rather grubby around light switches😼

    Hi,
though sure you'll turn it into a crisis, or a drama, having followed you're 'Under the sink', epic, though it had a happy ending.

You have to pull one light out to see what it is.
These lights can be either 230V or 12V. If the latter, there has to be a transformer either individual for each light or common for all lights.
  • Thanks @grumbler
Hard to explain in this thread ,but I went through this with the kitchen fittings and the end result was that all fittings had to be upgraded and replaced .
Indeed  there is a transformer in the ceiling in these light fittings .
As the setup in the hallway and bathroom are identical and the lifespan coming to an end it seems best to replace all when one of the bulbs pack up.

The issue I’m trying to find out is the delay when I turn on the switch .
    I’m expecting a bang sometime.
I’m trying to find out if this is a sign of one of fittings packing up very soon ..or another electrical issue as well as the replacement of fittings.
    Hope that makes sense ..

If you're getting the fittings replaced, maybe go for ones that don't have a transformer?   With those (GU10) you simply replace the bulb when it fails, which you can do yourself.
