I am looking to get a mortgage so i checked my equifax account and it showed there was a default added to my account on 22-1-22 for £24 by bt. I have not been with bt for over 6 years and on the default it says it s for my previous address. I checked my old bt account and it says balance is zero, ive had no correspondance from bt about this either. I phoned rquifax to dispute it but they came back to me today to say it is correct and will not be removed. I called bt and they claim to not be able to find that account. I have made a complaint to the ceo of bt. I am looking to get a new mortgage in 2 years time. Are they allowed to just add a default even though i closed the account 6 years ago? I am not convinced i owe them any money. Just seems strange to me it has been added all these years later.
thanks!
thanks!

They are allowed to add it if they have evidence you owe it, but at the same time, defaults should be registered after 1-3 contractually agreed payments are missed so if you have not used them for 6 years, the default should be on the date you actually defaulted, not 6 years later. A formal complaint is the only way to go unfortunately0
