Hob cutout

About to order some worktop to make a temp home for our new hob... according to the instructions the cut out should be 50mm from the front of the worktop and at least 50mm from the rear of the worktop... cut out is 500mm and out worktop is 645mm so would be 95mm at the back and 50mm at the front... this will mean the lead edge of the device will be 40mm from the edge of the worktop. That to me sounds very far forward and not sure why you wouldn't have it a bit further back
Is it normal to be that far forward? I guess as its temp we could trial and adjust when the final kitchen is done.

Are the controls to the side or to the front of the hob?
Our worktop is 600mm deep and our 500mm deep gas hob is centrally positioned so is 50mm from the front and 50mm from the rear. However the controls are to the front so the hob burners are positioned further back so are well clear of the front.
Perhaps there are regulations covering this but I see no reason why you can't position your hob a bit further back than 40 mm from the front. Perhaps you could position it centrally so that you have about 72 mm clear front and rear.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
They are in the middle basically... its one of these with an extractor built in so the induction zones come right to the front and the controls are in-between the two areas infront of the extraction vent.Belenus said:Are the controls to the side or to the front of the hob?

You will be limited on how far forward the hob cut out can be by the base unit underneath. There is often a cross brace at the top/front of the base unit - You do not want to be cutting into it too deep..If the base unit allows, I'd suggest splitting the gap so that you have ~75mm front & back.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Thanks for the suggestion... the hob only gets thicker than the worktop 85mm back from the hole so with the suggested 50mm should mean its clear of bracingFreeBear said:You will be limited on how far forward the hob cut out can be by the base unit underneath. The back its hard to measure from where it is now but its certainly closer to the edge than the 85mm at the front0
