multiple store gift card refunded as single store gift card

We bought a standard fridge freezer from Currys and paid for some of it with a gift card that could be used in multiple stores.

Currys came to delivered  and the delivery crew decided they would not deliver (2nd floor purpose built flat) as health and safety issue. They showed us the applaince on their lorry, it was no different, in size, to others on there. They siad a different crew might deliver, and to contact Currys for a redelivery and then sat outside for 20 minutes! The delivery details on the order stated it was a 2nd floor flat.

They returned the fridge/ freezer to the warehouse. We immediatley contacted Currys who said they couldn't deal with it as it was out for delivery and to phone the next day. We phoned the next day and were told systems were down so phone again in 4 hours. When we finally managed to discuss the issue with Currys, we were told it was now out of stock and would be refunded :-(

Currys issued the refund with the part paid on a gift card returned on a Currys gift card which can't be used anywhere else. This is not the same as the original gift card which could be used in mulitple stores. Can they do this - as is not the same as the original gift card?

We have no wish to use Currys again, as we cannot guarantee delivery, since it would appear to be upto individual delivery crews to decide.

As currys dont sell gift cards for other stores, then its diffucult to know what else they could do

You spent the money in Currys with a gift card, they have refunded you with a gift card. The gift card you used is now spent, they have no way of replacing that

The solution is to get it delivered to the door and get a couple of friends to take it upstairs.

It's not a difficult thing to do but for delivery drivers they can just claim health and safety to make their life easier.

As I understand it, they've done nothing wrong, it's just unfortunate.  They shouldn't convert gift card credit into cash refunds, so what else can they do?

That's fine, but when you are new to the area and don't know anyone - it isn't possible to ask others.

Seems to be an issue with this type of gift card, assuming it is One4all, they can't refund back to that card.

"13.3 If a Participating Retailer becomes liable to make a refund to you, we will not credit the amount of any refund to the Card; refunds are a matter between you and the relevant Participating Retailer. "

Currys website doesn't make a distinction about how those will be handled. Just stating returns from gift cards will be to a gift card.

Seems like they have done what the terms state they can.

Currys terms for delivery also state that for delivery above the 1st floor they can only decide upon arrival.
