Windows 10 update fail

Despite repeated attempts over many weeks the latest Windows update is failing to load on my PC.
As well as Defender I run Ghostery and Express VPN.
I have tried running the update without the latter two but without success.
I'd be grateful for any tips.

Hi,have you tried Troubleshooting, use Search > System and Security > Fix Update Problems.0

Theres a standalone windows update tool on the Microsoft web site
It manages updates better in my opinionEx forum ambassador

As suggested above, run the update tool here -> https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

if that doesn't work google the error code.0

Try deleting all files in the following location
C:\Windows\Software distribution\Download I have done this in the past and then Windows update has re-downloaded everything it needs.
One one family lap top, that didn't work so I deleted all the contents of the C:\Windows\Software distribution folder as I was feeling brave and that did the trick.
Delete contents, reboot, run windows update.
