Need to switch and get off pre payment

Good afternoon all
My better halfs Mum is currently on pre-payment with Boost Energy and after a lot of persuasion agreed to go on a smart meter and was told by them that she could go on direct debit
The smart meters were installed before xmas and they still havn't put her on DD
One of the meters also does not work properly and literally everytime she tops up MBH has to go and type in a 20 digit code so it will then top up the credit
Boost are refusing to come out to fix the meter and have actually said that she has to run out of gas before they will even consider trying to sort out the problem and this is not an option in the middle of winter
We need to get her a) off pre-payment and b) with a better supplier
Boost are pre payment only
Having gone through the various compare websites i am struggling to find anyone accepting new customers and i understand this is currently down to the energy crisis but we cannot carry on with Boost with the current situation
The lady in question is 81 years old and does not understand how to put codes into a meter and the customer services runs rings around her when she rings them

Can anyone give me any advice on where to go with this problem as we are at the end of the road with Boost

Thank you for any advice and help given

John

I think EDF are accepting new customers but you have to ring them. Also Boost would have to change the meters to credit mode before she can change otherwise they may not work

    As Curiousgirl1 says, try EDF.
You'll need to phone them as you can't join them on their variable-rate tariff online.

Am I able to sign up to your Standard Variable tariff as a new customer to EDF?

Yes. Bear in mind we can’t offer you a cheaper Standard (Variable) tariff price than your current energy supplier. Standard (Variable) prices are linked to the Ofgem Price Cap.

    ...

If you’re new to EDF and want to take our Standard (Variable) tariff, you’ll need to give us a call to be able to do this, you can’t sign up online. You can then chat with our team about the pros and cons to make sure this is the best option for you at this time.
