Sunfl0w3r said:Good morning,
I find dangling the duvet over the bannisters and holding the corners of the cover and shaking it down makes it easier to change. I also confess to drying the bedding in the tumble dryer, I don't mind drying clothes on the airers but I hate bedding and towels hanging around.Love your wee sunflower Sunfl0w3rI turn the cover inside out and then grab the corners, it's more difficult just now because of the double duvet and wanting to put the magnetic pins in two corners and the middle of the top. The wet duvet fits exactly across the bannister rail for drying while the rest go in the spare room with the dehumidifier on, they soon all dry.As the rain stopped I went out to post the two birthday cards, there's always a chance that the postie doesn't stop here to hand them over. I also bought some celery and a couple of red / orange peppers to roast. The soup will get done today, honest injun!Right, will stop this distraction therapy and get into a higher gear.

Gers - A trip to Berlin - that's something to look forward to. It's so good that your mum's letters etc will be read and appreciated.
Had a nice morning with my dad while mam went to church. Wild and rainy this afternoon - going to get tea prepared and then get comfy with my Sunday Times12 -
@Gers wow Berlin, I will admit to being so jealous to that. I have been learning German for nearly a year and would love to visit anywhere in Germany one day!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

My own skills in German are dormant though I find I very quickly pick it up again. My mother was from Berlin though after the war the remaining family decamped to a small village near to Heidelberg in the south. Michael moved to Berlin, mostly to avoid national service. You'll get there, quick flight Kirkwall to Glasgow and you're halfway there.9

Afternoon all. On the weather front, the good news is the snow has gone.
The bad news is it's been raining heavily since late last night and shows no sign of stopping. And there's another storm on the way - Franklin or something like that.
I hope those in flood prone areas are OK.
I find this drab weather doesn't encourage me to do much but I've done today's chores that need doing, the rest can wait. Included in that is an email reminder to send in this month's meter readings. The gas meter box is outside and no way am I going outside in this deluge. I've had a rummage through the freezer looking for a tub of beef casserole for tomorrow's dinner but it's not there. I don't remember eating it but we must have done.Never mind, there's a pork casserole we can have instead. Gammon, cabbage, potatoes for today.
I wasn't impressed with last night's TV but we only have Freeview so have limited choice of what to watch (too many repeats, channels we don't watch etc) but tonight isn't bad at all. It seems to be feast or famine.Gers - Many people seem to wash their hair in the shower or bath nowadays so it was a surprise to read that you do yours over the kitchen sink, as do I. I think for me it’s a hang-over from childhood days plus I hate loose hairs clinging to me! Good luck with the under sink declutter. A trip to Berlin soon, something to look forward to. I learned German at school many, many years ago and found it easier than French. Alas, it’s a use-it or lose-it thing. I’ve lost it. And you’re going to have to work on the idleness!
Nels - We seem to have a fair few meter boxes minus doors round here too and I’m not sure if repair (or lack of it) is a universal problem or just that people haven’t bothered.
TA - hope you get all you ordered. It seems like pot luck nowadays, doesn’t it?
Right, time for me to make a coffee ready for my Sunday date with Johnny Walker on Radio 2. Whilst doing that, I'm having a DIY manicure and pedicure. I expect DH will be having a nap (as usual).
Nothing else of importance to say, so I'll wish you all a good rest of the weekend and send the usual hugs for anyone needing one. X
Be kind to others and to yourself too.12 -

I learned German at school many, many years ago and found it easier than French. Alas, it’s a use-it or lose-it thing. I’ve lost it. And you’re going to have to work on the idleness! When I was working I used to shower every morning and wash my hair in the shower, usually every second day. Now that I'm a lady of leisure I like to shower before bed and jump into a warm bed so can't wash my hair then. I have never used a hair-dryer so that's out (I only own one for visitors to use and it's in the spare bedroom somewhere), hence the need to wash my hair over the kitchen sink. My tap is on a spring thing and it's got a wee button to press for the sprayer so it's easy.Cupboard under the kitchen sink is now cleared out, I didn't have anything much in there so it was a three minute job. Linseed soup made and the smell is making my mouth water. It takes me right back to my childhood days when DM made it every week. I got a tip from a German recipe site which suggested adding some wine vinegar to it as well as a small amount of sugar, these two things do really enhance the flavour. I've also roasted off red, yellow and orange peppers with onion and garlic and chucked in some almost ropey cherry tomatoes. As I had the oven on I've also roasted some pork belly to go with the linseed soup.So I'm Qooker service man ready and cleaner ready too. Fridge is full again and I've done enough for one day! The wind is rising and the rain is chucking down, I think that the main storm Franklin will again just skim round here but I hope that everyone in its path is safe and warm.8 -
