Firstly sorry to hear about your step-mother.
Her contribution will be worked on just her income and savings.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

A financial assessment will be done on her income and capital.

Are all his savings in his name & only if hers are over a certain amount.

They have separate bank accounts . Her pension and attendance allowance goes into her own account and my dad's pension and pension from his work goes into his . He did give her quite a few thousand pounds for an isa a few years ago and he transfers all the bill money from his account into her account each month . They have been married a long long time but she has never had to work . I don't believe she will have over the threshold . And Thank you , dad was hoping she would be able to come home , but even with a full package of care I don't think he will be able to manage .

I went through this with my step father and later my mother so know what you and your parents are going through. One think that might be difficult for your father is managing the household expenses if your mother has always been the person to do it. Check their utility bills to see if they are in joint names. If they are just in hers that will need sorting out at some point.

if you don’t have lasting powers of attorney in place I would strongly advise get both of them to get both welfare and finance LPAs in place as a matter of urgency. This assumes your mother still has the mental capacity to do so.
