Gas and electric direct debit.

hello,
Im currently on variable rate with Eon paying annually, every 3 months or so.

I rang them up to get a fixed direct debit but they said at the moment the tariff that im on is the cheapest, although variable.

With the news at the moment im worried about the variable bit, they just kept saying that im on the best tariff.

So if i move to a fixed tariff ill be paying more.  But surely with the prices going up my bill are looking to raise anyway.  Also the quotes that are around at the moment im worried that wont be around if i do have to change.

Any advice what to do?  Eon kept telling me i didnt understand the different between a fixed direct debit and a fixed tariff.  but i just want to know how much im paying to budget each month plus also get the best deal.
