prvider of the 2nd quote has told me that he can provide a Growatt inverter (MIN 3600 TL-XE) instead of the Sofar inverter, at no additional cost.

I hope they've sorted out their back office, it was a complete shambles when they installed a system for me last year

That's interesting - how did this impact your installation?

Thanks for that - definitely food for thought. I've just read another reviewer on Trustpilot who was still waiting for an MCS certificate from them after a year. I might need to re-think....

Apologies if I'm repeating myself (I probably am), but this is INSANE. My installer provided me with the MCS certificate within minutes of his commissioning the system, he was standing in front of me (in my garage) holding his laptop when the certificate arrived in my email inbox.

(I think he also printed it out and sent it to me in a fancy packaged binder of many different sorts of warranties and things, that arrived six weeks later because he'd had to chase some of the equipment manufacturers for the right warranties)
7.25 kWp PV system (4.1kW WSW & 3.15kW ENE), Solis inverter, myenergi eddi & harvi for energy diversion to immersion heater. myenergi hub for Virtual Power Plant demand-side response trial.

You shouldn't even be presented with an invoice for the work until an MCS certificate is provided.

One of the quotes that I had has a £700 line item on it which is described as: "MCS Electrical Installation Workmanship and Certification". Is this as ludicrous as it sounds?

Isn't it just another way of saying "labour and administration charge"?

I'd assumed that labour was covered by the separate £1,800 line item for "Smart Solar PV MCS Roof Installation 8 - 14 Modules MCS Installation including Workmanship and Certification" (which does not include the £1,442 cost of the panels themselves, which is a separate line item).
This "Workmanship and Certification" seems to be an expensive commodity
