How best to add daughter to my car insurance ?
Options
My daughter aged 30 has just passed her driving test and is keen to drive my car, it'll help me out too.
She only started learning a couple of years ago but due to the pandemic had to stop / start her lessons .. Thankfully she passed the other day, first time.
What is the best way to insure her please ... add her as a second driver on my policy or take out a separate policy
thanks !

Phone your insurance company and ask them to add her on. Easy, job doneRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.3

If she is added as a second driver, that may bring your overall premiums down on renewal. As a named second driver, she won't be building up any no claims bonus though, although you might find an insurer who will count it. However, you can't both have separate insurance policies for the same car - one has to be the main driver. It will be much cheaper for you to be on the same policy with main and named driver.
If she is going to be the main driver, then you need to tell the insurance that, as the policy will be based on what you tell them. If you have you as main driver, but she ends up being main driver, it could be classed as fronting which is a no no.1 -

You can have two normal policies on a car too but that will cause headaches in the event of a claim, particularly if its a claim against "the RTA insurer" of the vehicle (eg if someone agreed for a neighbour to drive the car) and is likely to result in a claim off of both policies.
Cleanest mechanism, assuming its not just an occasional/one off thing, is to add her as a named driver. Given her age it is unlikely to be THAT painful despite only recently passing.0
