Up to date meter reading and switching before price hike

Hi,

My meter readings have not been up to date for a while with my energy provider. They are higher than the estimations they put on the bills.

Should I update them asap to avoid paying higher after April? Or is going with estimations when they are lower a best option?

Also I'm with Outfox The Market and have just received their letter about the hike from April. They estimate an extra £600 a year on my bills 😧😭 Is it time to switch before it kicks in?

Thanks

Best to get up to date now to avoid any debate with them about what rate to charge you for the extra usage.
They will probably increase the DD once they see your actual use.
Switching isn't going to help as you won't find another supplier offering a fix cheaper than the capped variable rate you'll be on after April 1st at the moment.
  • It is never a good idea to go with estimates. OFTM will estimate a change of tariff reading which based on your post is likely to be lower than it should be. Any future actual reading will result in you paying more for the energy that you used when you were on a lower tariff.
  • Hi,
lower estimates maybe seem ok at times, but then comes catchup day, then they bite.
Plenty of threads on here from folks complaining when the bite comes, best to supply monthly meter readings to avoid the bite.

Some (but not all) Outfox the Market "continuation" variable tariffs (where you've previously had a fixed-rate that has expired) have lower or zero standing charges but higher unit rates.
If you are on one of these tariffs and a lower-than-average user, you should stay on it. If however you are an above-average user, switching to another provider (or switching tariff while staying with OTM) could save you a little.

I'm on One Green Flex 2.0 - Dual Fuel Only - Variable. They're going to call it Fox Standard Dual.

That looks like a "normal" SVT for an account in the East Midlands. You're not likely to find a better deal at this time.
