Renewing driving license using passport
Is there a maximum age for a passport to allow you to renew your driving license online? The government website suggests that as long as you have a valid passport then you can renew online. My passport is valid but isn't that much younger than my driving license so not sure if this would be a problem.

When I got my first photocard licence (which is what you're talking about - you're not renewing your licence to drive) in 2013 my passport was due to expire in 2015, so an 8 years old photo. There was no problem with using that passport photo. When the photocard renewal is due next year I plan to use my passport again, and again the photo will be 8 years old.

Two years ago I renewed my passport, then renewed my licence a month later. For some reason DVLA used the 10-year-old photo from my old passport.0

So long as the passport is still valid, you can get away with using the photo. My passport expored last year, and I didn't bother renewing it. But I made sure I got a new driving licence photocard just before the passport expired. Up to then I'd been relying on the 1 year extension for photocard licences. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
