Now that the cold, dark weather is here, all thoughts turn to keeping cosy and snuggling up indoors in the warm.
But while it's only natural to turn up the heating at this time of year, it's still important to think about conserving energy.
According to E.ON, the company behind Powergen, there are many ways to make your home more energy efficient.
From turning your thermostat down to switching over to energy saving light bulbs and energy efficient electrical appliances, there's plenty you can do to save energy. And apart from being able to relax in the knowledge that your carbon footprint is being reduced, your bank account will also see the benefits.
Turning your central heating thermostat down by just 1C can save up to 10 per cent on your fuel bills.
Insulating your loft can save £180 a year. You may also be able to get an energy saving grant to help with the cost.
Turn lights off when a room is empty. Use natural light as much as possible. If you use a light for an average of four hours or more a day, fit an energy saving light bulb. It will use around a quarter of the electricity and will last ten times longer than an ordinary bulb.
