Remember Halifax Share Dealing Account starts charging to have an account in April......so if you just hold shares in there and do nothing....you'll be £36 a year lighter......

Thanks for the reminder - need to close my account as I don't use it regularly enough to justify the cost.0

Remember to ensure there is enough cash in your account to meet the fee on 1 April. or they will sell shares. The "good" thing is that the one fee covers all accounts.NewPieman said:Remember Halifax Share Dealing Account starts charging to have an account in April......so if you just hold shares in there and do nothing....you'll be £36 a year lighter......0 -

They will take it from your direct debt card linked to the account. So those that are jumping ship where are you moving too?

I've opened up a Nominee account with x-o.co.uk because they currently have no yearly charge or inactivity fees and I only buy and sell shares very occasionally. I also have some paper shares I need to sort and they still accept these.Thumbs_Up said:

Are x-o.co.uk fairly reliable and safe? I tried to call them recently to ask a few questions but could never get through to customer service.
When handing in paper certificates to them, if the certificate got lost in the post or they lost it, what happens to the shares and how do you prove ownership?0 -

I messaged them yesterday and received the email this morning, so maybe the best way to go.

we have shares in one company, halifax would wait until the dividend got to a certain amount and then would reinvest that into the same company for us and charge us a brokerage fee for that. i am looking for this from another company, but so far x-o do not do the reinvesting bit, want to be able to use online site, not an app, all i can seem to find is companies that have investment portfolios, so any recommendations would be greatfully accepted.

Yes they are. As per randm, I've found that email does seem a good way to contact them.isayhello said:Are x-o.co.uk fairly reliable and safe? I tried to call them recently to ask a few questions but could never get through to customer service.
I'd look into using an insured signed for method to post them - as if they do get lost prior to arriving at x-o then you'll likely have to pay the stock registrar to re-issue the certificates. That cost will depend on the stock and the number of shares that get lost so you'll need to make sure you get it covered for the right amount.isayhello said:When handing in paper certificates to them, if the certificate got lost in the post or they lost it, what happens to the shares and how do you prove ownership?1 -
Is a no frills low cost service. The website provides all the answers to your questions.isayhello said:Are x-o.co.uk fairly reliable and safe? I tried to call them recently to ask a few questions but could never get through to customer service.

Send the paper certificates by registered post. If you ever lose them them. The company registrar will issue new ones albeit at a cost. Hence why going paperless makes sense.

Which platforms have you tried?randm said:we have shares in one company, halifax would wait until the dividend got to a certain amount and then would reinvest that into the same company for us and charge us a brokerage fee for that. i am looking for this from another company, but so far x-o do not do the reinvesting bit, want to be able to use online site, not an app, all i can seem to find is companies that have investment portfolios, so any recommendations would be greatfully accepted.
I've not used AJ Bell for a while but they did use to allow you to set up a regular investment which may do what you want, see https://www.youinvest.co.uk/our-services/regular-investments - but you do have to pay a platform fee based on a percentage of the amount you hold with them, so thoroughly check the costs before moving across to them.
