Car Leasing - Still waiting for car 6 months on???

Options
We ordered a car in September with Leap Vehicle Leasing and at the time was promised a delivery date of 14th November.  Our old car gave up and we explained that we'd be without a car and had gone with Leap as they had the shortest timescale.  We were not told at the time of a 'chip' problem at the manufacturers and was told there were cars available in the UK as we were keen to get one quickly.  Here we are nearly 6 months down the line getting fobbed off every few weeks or so that the leasing company have chased the dealer but the date's been extended yet again, this time to 1st April.  I'm using my grandad's old car as he's given up driving but thats due an MOT in March and hubby is adamant he doesn't want to spend a penny on it as it won't pass the MOT.  So we're stuck with the potential of having no car, 2 young children to take nowhere, whilst holding on to a promise of a car which might not even arrive.  Does anyone have any advice about whether it would be prudent to cancel the contract and look elsewhere?  I've paid an admin fee but quite frankly feel this should be reimbursed as the fee was to bring about the delivery of a car, which I still don't have.  Even if we cancel am I not going to run into the same problem with another car leasing company??  I just don't know what to do for the best.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • Unless you can find a car that’s literally sitting on the forecourt then cancelling will just delay getting a car as the process will have to start again.

Have you asked the leasing company if they have an alternative that’s sat in the UK?
  • i ordered a new leased Qashqai in September from Nationwide car leasing and just get emails stating they are awaiting delivery dates from the supplying dealer. No date at all has been mentioned as to when the car will arrive. When I ordered it I was told around end Dec / early Jan.

My stepson ordered the identical model 3 weeks earlier on lease from a main Nissan dealer and took delivery of his new car 2 weeks ago. So maybe the moral of the story is order from a dealer as they get hold of the cars before the lease companies? Who knows?

My Volvo was ordered mid-October; was originally expected ~15-Mar-22 but has slipped to ~10-Apr-22 (to the dealer, and was unchanged at last check).

I'd cancel the lease and go buy something used that it's stock right now. New cars are only fine at the moment if you can wait indefinitely.
  • As above. Go to a used car lot and buy one that’s in stock. You could be driving a car with in a week. If you’re in the northwest I recommend Fords of Windsford. You can browse  and reserve on line.
I’ve bought my last 2 cars there and have recommended to family and friends.
You get to own the car when the finance has ended.
