British Transport 3 Per Cent Stock

Hello, I have the responsibility of applying for the grant of probate as one of my late mother's executors. I have come across some very old tax vouchers for "British Transport 3 Per Cent Stock 1978 - 1988" in my late mother's name, with a certain amount of capital confirmed on them. I don't appear to have any certificate for this, and I'm not aware if my mother had previously cashed this in or not. Would anybody be able to tell me how I go about finding out if these are still valid, and who I contact, as I've not had much luck elsewhere - thank you!
