Thermostat meaning?
Sounds stupid, but I genuinely don't know what is meant when people say turn down the thermostat 1 or 2 degrees or reverse to warm up property, set to 18 or something.
I have a combo boiler, a wireless timer, comes on and off certain time. If you want it outside I press button and switch off manually.
The only thermostat thibgs I know is the ones on he wall in hotel rooms.
What is actually meant by adjusting the thermostat, is it something I should be doing with what I have got?

Most people with central heating have a room thermostat - exactly like the ones you see in hotels - on the wall, often in the hall. It's unusual not to have one. Some are simple manual dials, others are digital; still others are programmable or even smart. A lot of home central heating installs have a wall mounted thermostat (the same as you’ve seen in hotels) to set a temperature that signals the boiler to continue firing until the desired temperature of the air in the room is reached. This happens within the hours set on the timer control on the boiler itself. So if you set, say, 17 degrees on the thermostat but find this too cold you might turn the thermostat up a few degrees to say 21. Eventually the air temperature will increase because the boiler is firing and the system will stop the boiler. Temperature will drop, boiler will fire again, temperature rises .. and repeat. If the thermostat is set to keep the temperature at 24 and it feels too hot, turn the thermostat down a few degrees, the system will balance the room temperature at whatever you’ve selected. Many of these systems are wireless these days so the thermostat can be placed in whatever room seems most suited to setting the main temperature for the house.Arch1

You would need to change the timer you have for a more advanced gadget which only comes on for the times you have set if the temperature it measures is below the target you have set. When I installed one I reduced my gas bill noticeably.

 Thanks all.1

Thanks all. It’s working correctly if it didn’t come on outside the “Active time” as it’s doubtful the room it’s in is getting as low as 10 degrees.Did you get any instructions with the wireless timer? If not has it got a model number and we can try and find instructions online?
 What room is it in?Arch0

Some insurance policy's say the min should be 12, but unless your away i would use 16c.
