Car rejection

  • The sideskirt wasnt flush with the car so I took it to a bodywork specialist who found filler and a repair on that side of the car along with overspray on the window rubbers from where it has been done.  Dont get me wrong I know an 8 year old car will have its faults but this is a one owner car that I had assumed had been looked after but this along with all of the other issues makes me wonder how much trouble it will cause me in the future.

The car was booked in with BMW for a recall and I have asked countless times for a copy of the vehicle health check from BMW but so far thats fallen on deaf ears which makes me think they are hiding stuff from me on that respect.
Sounds like you’ve reached a decision already - as others have said mostly non dramatically nothing untoward or unusual with what you’ve bought and it’s age.

You can contact the dealer saying you want to reject - see what they say and even go the LBA and claim route. Good luck.
The thing is I do like the car, however I got my fingers burnt a few years ago from a dealer selling a same aged car that had a number of faults (major ones) and I tried to sort myself stupidly as they were so far away and I couldnt be without a car so im super conscious now. The car did look ok at first and yes the issues are minor and they have agreed to fix those, what I didnt anticipate was buying a car that had previous damage and had been 'repaired' badly then what else could go wrong after the 30 days that then makes it even harder for me to resolve issues?
  • I agree that it sounds like buyer's remorse and that you're hunting for reasons to reject. Since you no longer want the car, reject it and see what happens.  If successful, great.  If not, you'll have to decide whether you want to take it all the way to legal action, or whether you cut your losses and sell it.

If you're determined to reject it, you need to stop using it immediately until the situation is resolved.

"One owner" doesn't really mean a thing.  It might have been owned by a mature and sensible driver who treated it with care and had it serviced in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.  As it's a BMW it's far more likely to have been driven hard at some point in its life.  The fact that the interior is tatty would tend towards thinking the owner fell into the latter category.

On a 8 year old car the number of owners makes very little difference. Plenty of cars at that age will have had some bodywork damage repaired.

Did you now view the car 1st given  not in very good condition inside. Which TBH given 75K miles is going to be the norm. Unless the owner had it valeted on a regular basis.

If you are not happy then tell dealer you want to reject.

You have to remember the law takes into consideration the age and mileage of a car as far as consumer rights go.

After 30 days it gets very difficult to reject a car for normal wear and tear.

From what I've been reading it wouldn't be an automatic fail.  It would depend on whether the battery could fall from its location.
